Guru Stotram

akhaṇḍa maṇḍalākāram vyāptam yena carācaram
tat padam darśitam yena tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

Salutations to that glorious guru who has shown me that Supreme being, who in the form of unbroken glory pervades the universe of the moving and non-moving beings.

ajñāna timirāndhasya jñānañjana śalākayā
cakṣur unmilitaṃ yena tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

Salutations to that glorious guru who, when my sight was blinded by the darkness of ignorance, restored it to the light of knowledge and truth.

sthāvaram jaºgamam vyāptam yat kiñcit sacarācaram
tat padaṃ darśitaṃ yena tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

Salutations to that glorious guru, who has revealed to me that Highest State which pervades all that is fixed or moving, all that exists whether animate or inanimate.

cinmayaṃ vyāpitaṃ sarvam trailokyaṃ sacarācaram
tat padaṃ darśitaṃ yena tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

Salutations to that glorious guru who has shown me that Supreme consciousness that pervades the three worlds and all that moves and stays therein.

sarva śruti śiroratna virājita padāmbuja
vedāntāmbuja sūryo yo tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

Salutations to that glorious guru whose lotus feet are bedecked with the crest-jewels of all revelations, and who is the sun who makes the bloom of vedānta blossom.

caitanyaḥ śāṣvata śānto vyomātīto niranjanaḥ
bindu nāda kalātīto tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

Salutations to that glorious guru who is intelligence itself, the Eternal, and the serene, untouched by pollution and above the subtle aspects of sound.

jñāna śākti samārūḍha tattva mālā vibhūṣita
bhukti mukti pradātā ca tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

Salutations to that glorious guru who is established in Knowledge and Power, who is adorned with the garland of wisdom and who grants both worldly prosperity and liberation.

aneka janma samprāpta karma bandha vidāhine
ātma jñana pradānena tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

Salutations to that glorious guru who by giving the sacred knowledge, burns up the bonds of the accumulated karma of many births.

śoṣanaṃ bhava sindhośca jñapanam sāra sampadaḥ
guroḥ pādo’dakam samyak tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

Salutations to that glorious guru, the water sanctified by whose feet dries up the ocean of saṃsāra and makes one to realize the Supreme Wealth.

na guror adhikaṃ tattvaṃ na guror adhikaṃ tapaḥ
tattva jñānāt paraṃ nāsti tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

There is no truth higher than the guru and no penance higher than service to him and there is nothing higher than knowledge of the Truth, Salutations to that glorious guru.

mannāthaḥ śrī jagannātha mad guru jagad guruḥ
madātma sarva bhūtātma tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

My lord is Lord of the Universe, my guru is the world teacher, and my Self is the same Self that is in all beings, Salutations to that glorious guru.

gururādir anādis ca guruḥ parama daivatam
guroḥ parataraṃ nāsti tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

The guru is the beginning of the world, yet he himself is without beginning; the guru is the highest deity; there is none higher than the guru, Salutations to that glorious guru.

gurur brahma gurur viṣṇu gurur devo maheśvaraḥ
guruḥ sākśāt parabrahma tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

Guru is the essence of Brahmā, guru is the essence Viṣṇu, guru is the essence of the great sovereign god – Çiva; The guru, in my presence, in actual bodily form, is the transcendental spirit. Salutations to that glorious guru.

dhyana mulaṃ gururmurti puja mulaṃ gurorpadam
mantra mulaṃ gurorvakyam mokśamulam gurokṛpa

The root of meditation is the guru’s form, the root of worship is the guru’s feet, the root of mantra is the guru’s speech, the root of liberation is the guru’s mercy and grace.
